$2 Million 1931 Miller “Bowes Seal Fast” Special Race Car (Indy 500 Winner)

The 1931 Miller “Bowes Seal Fast” Special race car leaving the 2026 San Marino Motor Classic at Lacy Park. Based on a Miller 122, one of around 15 built, this car is powered by a Miller 8 122-ci engine bored out to 151 ci. It was the winner of the 1931 Indianapolis 500, driven by Louis Schneider with riding mechanic John “Jigger” Johnson, with an average speed of 96.629 mph. The car was sold in August 2011 at the Mecum Monterey auction for $2,120,000 and was displayed at the 2012 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. It will be offered for sale again in August 2026 at the Gooding Christie’s Pebble Beach auction during Monterey Car Week, where it is expected to sell for a price of $2,000,000 to $3,000,000.

There was a time when old retired race cars were largely treated as junk. Those times have certainly passed, and today there are numerous wealthy collectors willing to shell out huge sums of money to obtain special pieces of racing history. This is especially true for cars that have found success on the circuit and cars affiliated with famed builders or drivers.
