1905 Queen Model E Light Touring (w/ startup, top operation)
A very rare green 1905 Queen Model E Light Touring car leaving the 2021 San Marino Motor Classic at Lacy Park and being loaded into a transporter. Based in Detroit, Queen was founded in 1904 by engineer Carl H. Blomstrom and produced around 1,500 cars before merging with Car de Luxe in 1906. This car, the only known surviving example of the Model E, is powered by a 196-ci 2-cylinder engine producing around 16 bhp. It was displayed at the 2005 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance after undergoing a comprehensive restoration. The car was sold in May 2021 for $80,640 at the Bonhams Amelia Island auction.
Tell someone you drive a Model E, and chances are they'll think it's some sort of EV. After all, Model E was the name Tesla had originally intended to give its popular Model 3. But this car is not only powered by a gas engine, but also well over a century old. And unlike what the brand's name may suggest, it's not English. There's something amazing about seeing any car from this era today, but when the car is in showroom condition and being driven on a public road, you wouldn't be blamed for thinking time travel has become a reality!
