1912 Abbott-Detroit Model 44 Touring Car

A red 1912 Abbott-Detroit Model 44 Seven-Passenger Touring car arriving at and leaving Clearman's restaurants during the 2021 Holiday Motor Excursion presented by the Horseless Carriage Club (HCCA) of Southern California. This car, built on a chassis with a 120-inch wheelbase, is powered by a Continental long-stroke four-cylinder engine rated at 44 to 50 horsepower and features an electric light system and a 1913 dealer-installed chain drive starter.

Here's the latest video of a car from a brand most people today have never heard of. Abbott-Detroit was only around for about a decade, and that was over a century ago. Still, this car leaves no less of a solid impression now as it did when it was new. Its generous wheelbase and proportions, common for luxury touring cars of the time, dwarf even some big SUVs on the road today. And its fire engine-like red bodywork makes sure it doesn't go anywhere without people staring in amazement. I've seen this car multiple times at the annual Holiday Motor Excursion, and I'm glad its owner enjoys taking it out on the road and letting people catch a glimpse of what is likely the only Abbott-Detroit they'll ever get to see!
