1934 Duesenberg Model J Berline Sedan by Rollston

A rare black 1934 Duesenberg Model J Town Car (Berline Sedan) with coachwork by Rollston leaving the 2026 San Marino Motor Classic at Lacy Park. This car, chassis no. 2399, was one of 15 cars from various eras selected to be presented at the Symphony of Cars Gala held the night before the main event.

This year's Pebble Beach Best of Show went to a gorgeous rare Duesenberg SSJ Speedster. It was the 8th time a Duesenberg has won the coveted trophy, making it the American brand with the most wins (behind only Mercedes-Benz and Bugatti). And that really isn't too surprising; even in an era when America produced some of the world's most lavish and luxurious automobiles, Duesenbergs stood out as being the best of the best, made for those who were willing to pay any price for luxury that can be both enjoyed and flaunted. This particular example may "only" be a non-supercharged Model J, but it's no less of a beautiful and highly desirable car. While the Pebble-winning car focuses on open-top sportiness, this car emphasizes comfort and luxury with a large enclosed rear cabin. This "sedanca de ville" layout was common in the pre-war decades when luxury cars, like their horse-drawn predecessors, were often driven by chauffeurs while their owners rode comfortably in the back. It may not serve the same purpose today, but it sure looks amazing, and I'm glad its owner brings it out often to the annual San Marino Motor Classic for all to appreciate.
