A yellow and white 1959 Metropolitan (NK4) coupe arriving and leaving Legacy Cars & Coffee at Flight at Tustin Legacy. Originally conceived by Nash Motors Company and sold as the Nash Metropolitan and Hudson Metropolitan, the car was produced in England between 1953 and 1962 with bodywork by Fisher & Ludlow and final assembly by Austin Motor Company (under the British Motor Corporation). After the Nash and Hudson brands were discontinued in 1957, the Metropolitan was sold through Rambler dealerships under its own standalone brand. This example is a final series (Series IV) car, which features an external trunk lid.

The late 1950s were certainly an interesting time. In 1959, Cadillac built the glitzy Eldorado with massive tail fins, endless amounts of chrome, and a footprint not much different from that of a modern-day Escalade ESV. Then there was this thing, which you could probably park on the roof of the aforementioned Caddy. Over time, both have become automotive icons, and it's hard to not smile when you see a little Metropolitan roll by. I only found out while researching this car that it was actually sold under the standalone Metropolitan brand, and that at one point there was also a Hudson variant. Pretty much everybody still calls the car a Nash regardless of year, and nobody seems to have a problem with that. Guess I'll have to look for another example to categorize under the Nash marque!

Would you add this Metropolitan to your garage? Leave a comment on YouTube and let me know!
