2024 Polaris Slingshot R (w/ startup)
A blue 2024 Polaris Slingshot R starting up and leaving Claremont Cars & Coffee at Granite Creek Community Church. The 2024 Slingshot R had a starting price (MSRP) of $34,799 and is powered by a 2.0-liter ProStar inline-4 engine producing 203 horsepower and 144 lb-ft of torque.
I was surprised when the owner of this Slingshot told he hadn't done any donuts in it. Not that I'm condoning any sort of recklessness, but it's just that the typical Slingshot buyer tends to be someone who has more of a wild side, likes to be different from the crowd, and enjoys being seen as such. Maybe it's because its $35K price tag (for the R variant) makes it more attainable than even some economy cars. But don't let that price fool you; this vehicle is strictly a toy and not much more. With three wheels, two seats, no doors, minimal storage space, and limited weather protection (even with the top), the Slingshot isn't exactly meant for grocery runs or rush hour commutes. And for most automotive enthusiasts, the money (and garage space) would be much better spent on a used sports car that offers more power, more customization options, and more practicality. But of course, that car simply wouldn't be as fun when doing donuts.
With that said, I'm glad this owner is enjoying his Slingshot in a safe and civilized manner. After all, it still attracts plenty of attention with its eccentric shape and spaceship-like design and is a heck of a lot of fun even without having to doing anything stupid. Plus, anyone who would take a Slingshot on the freeway on a cold January morning definitely has a wild side!
