Brand New $4.7 Million Bugatti Bolide

A brand new blue and black Bugatti Bolide entering the Petersen Automotive Museum after Sunset GT hosted by O'Gara. Introduced as a concept in 2020 and in production form in April 2023, the rare track-only Bolide features a carbon fiber monocoque developed in partnership with Dallara and aerodynamic bodywork capable of generating nearly 3 tons of downforce and 2.5 g's of lateral force. With a weight of 3,197 lbs, it is powered by an 8.0-liter quad-turbocharged W16 engine producing 1,578 horsepower and 1,180 lb-ft of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 2.2 seconds and achieve an electronically limited top speed of 236 mph. This example, which was recently delivered through Bugatti Beverly Hills (O'Gara Coach), is one of 40 Bolides built with a starting price of around $4.7 million.

As the company that pretty much defined the hypercar segment with the Veyron 20 years ago, Bugatti is no stranger to building cars that combine mind-blowing speed and performance with incredible refinement, all for prices more commonly associated with lavish houses. But what if the company focused its expertise on a track-only special, throwing aside all the rules and limitations of making a car street legal for something a bit less civilized and a bit more brutal, a bit less restrained and a bit more crazy?

The closest thing to the Bolide that inhabits this planet is the Vision Gran Turismo concept from 2015, which I was lucky to have caught in person. Somehow, Bugatti has come up with something that makes even that car look tame in comparison. The rear end looks like a Star Wars fighter, and it's hard to look at pictures of this car and not wonder at least briefly if they're actually video game screenshots.

And the performance numbers aren't too shabby, either. I can't help but wonder how fast this car can go if its top speed wasn't electronically limited. The concept Bolide is supposedly capable of doing over 310 mph, and given this is Bugatti we're talking about, the number is actually believable. Sure, the concept also weighs less and has more power than the production car. But in a car that looks this wild and produces this much downforce, 236 mph is more than enough for any reasonable human to have mind-blowing amounts of fun.

Oh, and just a little spoiler - the reason this car entered the museum at the end was to ride the freight/car elevator down to street level since the inclines of the parking structure ramps, which pretty much any other supercar can handle with ease, are too steep for a car built exclusively for a smoothly paved track. I'm saving the ground level footage for a separate video to avoid this video being too long, but stay tuned for more of this mind-blowing hyper track monster!
