Custom 1993 Ferrari 348 TS Serie Speciale (w/ startup)
A rare red 1993 Ferrari 348 TS Serie Speciale, one of 100 Serie Speciales (35 TB's and 65 TS's) built exclusively for the U.S. market, leaving Morning Octane at Santa Anita Park. This car has been modified with removed side strakes, 360 Modena wheels, an F430 rear bumper, and a custom rear wing.
There's so much going on here I don't know where to begin. I've seen numerous examples of cars being retrofitted with wheels or bumpers from a later model to give it a more modern appearance, but this is the first (and only) one that pulls parts and inspiration from four different generations (including the base car). While I don't see any actual F355 components, the side strake delete is clearly a nod to that model's design. Surprisingly, the owner decided to keep the 348's taillights, which in this case are unique to the Serie Speciale cars. I assume this is a real Speciale since it has the limited-edition model's interior plaque (not shown on the video). But it does seem a bit odd that someone would put such extensive modifications on such a rare model. I can't believe I'm saying this, but somehow this car actually doesn't look too bad - except for the random rear wing, that is. All the parts (except for the wing) are unmistakably Ferrari, and they're all tied together by Ferrari's signature red hue. While Ferrari generally reserves visual changes for the introduction of new models or new variants, some other cars are known to receive bodywork updates regularly from year to year, often getting staggered front and rear facelifts (along with interior and powertrain updates) to keep things fresh. (The Corvette is the first that comes to my mind.) So in a way, you can almost think of this car as what an "interim" Ferrari V8 model in the late 1990s and early 2000s might have looked like. And if we ever cross paths again, I'd love to also find out what mechanical updates were made and what cars those parts came from!
