A 2024 Mercedes-AMG GT 55 (C192) arriving at the Christ & Cars Autumn Rally. This car is finished in Manufaktur Hyper Blue Magno (matte) with 21-inch AMG Forged Cross-Spoke wheels.

The first-generation AMG GT quickly became such a common sight that I stopped bothering to take pictures and videos of all but the most unique examples. So when the C192 model was introduced, I didn't expect it to be something particularly special from an exotic standpoint. Still, it's an incredible performance car highlighting AMG's tried-and-true engineering prowess that looks and feels at home next to cars more than twice its price. In my honest opinion, the decision to turn AMG (and Maybach) from a trim level into a sub-brand has driven Mercedes-Benz into somewhat of an identity crisis. (The current-generation SL is essentially an AMG GT convertible, but for the sake of familiarity and heritage, Mercedes had to keep its name, although it's now exclusively under the Mercedes-AMG brand, and now the two models must be careful not to step on each other's toes and create a marketing nightmare.) And I was never a big fan of Mercedes' current big-mouthed, fish-shaped design language. But in today's status-driven market, there's no doubt the combination of a huge three-pointed star, sleek and sporty bodywork, and a plethora of luxury features will be a hit. And even in base-level engine configuration like this example, it certainly has the performance to back up its looks.

Do you think the second-generation AMG GT will be as popular as the first-generation model? Leave a comment on YouTube and let me know!
