Mercedes G63 Brabus 700 4x4² at Downtown L.A. Immigration Protests

A rare Deep Black 2016 Mercedes-Benz Brabus 700 4x4² driving on Grand Ave. during the protests in Downtown Los Angeles against increased immigration enforcement. Based on a G63 (W463) AMG, the Brabus 700 4x4² is powered by the G63's 5.5-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine modified with Brabus' B63S-700 performance kit to produce 690 horsepower. It features upgraded suspension for increased ride height, portal axles, and a Brabus Widestar carbon fiber body kit.

Car spotting is a hobby that often catches me by surprise. I was simply enjoying a lunchtime walk in Downtown L.A. when I crossed paths with the group of protesters - and this monster truck. It's hard to tell whether or not the vehicle was actually part of the demonstration since it displayed no signage and its occupants remained hidden behind tinted windows. But given the unpredictable nature of these gatherings, which unfortunately includes a high likelihood of violence and vandalism, any unaffiliated driver should know to take a detour and steer clear of potential trouble, especially when you're in a vehicle with very expensive carbon fiber fenders. That is, of course, unless you want the attention. And that precisely describes the majority of people who would buy a quarter-million-dollar lifted G-Wagen with a widebody kit. (For those who are confused, this is not a factory G550 4x4², but a more powerful G63 AMG lifted and modified by Brabus. Even though it's not a "real" 4x4², it's essentially what an AMG-powered 4x4² would have been - plus a little more.) So in a way, a street surrounded by crowds and cameras was the perfect setting for this truck. It may not be doing more than just cruising slowly and looking cool, but it sure does a good job of standing out and making a bold statement!
