New 2024 Aston Martin DB12 Runs Out of Gas!

A brand new 2024 Aston Martin DB12 from Aston Martin Beverly Hills starting up after the 2023 Rodeo Drive Concours d'Elegance. The car ran out of gas and had to be refueled and jump started before moving on its own power. Introduced in May 2023, the DB12, which Aston Martin calls "the world's first Super Tourer", is powered by a twin-turbocharged Mercedes-AMG V8 engine producing 671 horsepower. This example, finished in Xenon Grey with 21" Y-spoke wheels, is currently on tour across various U.S. dealerships. The DB12 goes on sale later this year with a starting price (MSRP) of around $248,000.

Aston Martin sure doesn't waste any time. It's only been about a month since the DB12 was introduced, and there's already an example here on U.S. soil. Given its obvious resemblance to the outgoing DB11, the new car actually looks much better in person than I had expected, and I'm certainly not the only one who feels that way.

I'll save my thoughts on the DB12's design for another post (this was one of those cars that just begged me to continue pointing my camera at it, so I have more than enough footage for a separate video), but for now let me just clarify that despite the humor in seeing "the world's first Super Tourer" failing to start up, it's actually not uncommon for factory demo cars to run out of gas. These cars are meant for display rather than test drives and are transported frequently from one dealership to another, during which they must abide by safety regulations that allow cars to carry only a minimal amount of fuel. So even during very brief drives to load/unload a car and get it in position for display, it can be hard to gauge exactly when the tank will run dry. This isn't the first time I've seen it happen.

Special thanks to the team at Aston Martin Beverly Hills / O'Gara Coach for not only bringing this car out for the public to see, but for being a good sport and letting spectators continue to enjoy it and take pictures/videos despite the unexpected setback after an already exhausting day at the event.
