Rare $212K 2003 Porsche 911 (996) GT2
A rare 2003 Porsche 911 (996.2) GT2 arriving at and leaving Cars & Coffee at Singleton Classics. The GT2 is powered by a 3.6-liter twin-turbocharged flat six engine producing 456 horsepower and features a rear-wheel drive layout and unique bodywork including a new front bumper, wider rear fenders, and a fixed rear wing. This 20,000-mile example, finished in Arctic Silver Metallic with black leather interior, is one of 317 U.S.-spec 996 GT2s built. It was sold for $212,800 at the Broad Arrow Porsche Air|Water Auction in April 2025.
This car is unquestionably one of the most underrated water-cooled Porsches ever made, and to me its greatest strength is its subtlety. Unlike GT2 or RS variants of more modern 911s, it doesn't have bright decals, swaths of exposed carbon fiber, or a bunch of wild aero components. Aside from the front bumper and rear wing, it looks almost identical to a standard 996 Turbo. Yet its performance is at another level and its price was comparable to that of exotic Italian supercars. No wonder the majority of 996 "GT2s" I've seen were actually Turbos with modified bodywork. This one, however, is the real deal, and its good-as-new stock condition is an instant giveaway. Say what you will about the 996's controversial headlights, but I think the GT2's front bumper design complements them quite well. Unlike today's wildly-styled decal-clad Porsche GT models, this car can be driven right past a group of smartphone-wielding teenagers at a car show and remain almost entirely unnoticed. But when you do notice it and recognize it, it's hard not to be amazed.
Do you think this 996 GT2 is worth its $212,800 auction price? Leave a comment on YouTube and let me know!
