Rare $5 Million Matte Blue Bugatti W16 Mistral

A very rare 2025 Bugatti W16 Mistral leaving the Pre-Monterey Car Week Exclusive hosted by Protective Film Solutions in partnership with XPEL. Introduced in August 2022, the Mistral is powered by the 8.0-liter quad-turbocharged W16 engine from the Chiron producing 1,578 horsepower. On November 9, 2024, the Mistral set a record in Papenburg, Germany for the world’s fastest open-top production car with a top speed of 282 mph. It is the last car powered by Bugatti’s W16 engine which was first introduced on the Veyron. This example is finished in matte blue (Bleu Aigue-Marine Matt) with Steel Blue tinted carbon fiber. It is no. 87 of 99 Mistrals built for a starting price of around $5 million.

I usually don't check text messages while busy filming cars at big events, but this was one of those rare times when I should have; my friend, knowing I was outside, kindly notified me from the display room that the Mistral was on its way out. Needless to say, I didn't get his message on time, otherwise I might have gotten much better video footage of this incredible car. But at least I knew from experience that when an unusually large and excited group of spectators suddenly runs toward the street, it was time to let the camera roll even without actually knowing what was approaching.

This car is pretty much everything you should expect from a modern Bugatti - mind-blowing power and speed combined with top-tier luxury all for an obscene price. In the Mistral's case, production was also extremely limited, and you can enjoy all that power and luxury with an open top. Bugatti doesn't consider it a Chiron convertible with fresh styling, but since there was never an open-top Chiron variant, most people wouldn't blame you if you think of it as one. Plus, it shares the same heart as the Chiron - that mighty quad-turbo W16 that people have associated with Bugatti since the Veyron. The W16's demise certainly marks the end of an era in the brand's history that will be remembered and cherished for generations. And I'm glad Bugatti gave it an incredible send-off with the Mistral.
