Rare 1,578-hp Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+
A very rare 2022 Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+ arriving at and leaving The California Showcase at IKEA, organized by The Exotics Network (TEN) and Morning Car Club. Introduced in September 2019, the Super Sport 300+ was inspired by and based on the modified Chiron driven by Bugatti factory test driver and Le Mans winner Andy Wallace on the Ehra-Lessien test track in Germany to a record-breaking top speed of 304.773 mph. It features revised “Longtail” bodywork and is powered by an 8.0-liter quad-turbocharged W16 engine producing 1,578 horsepower. Production was limited to 30 units, all finished in Jet Black exposed carbon fiber with Jet Orange racing stripes.
Now that we're well into the month of October, here's a car with a factory spec that looks like it was made for a Halloween parade. We've now reached a point in history where cars can be engineered to go so fast that there's practically no place on the planet to actually achieve those speeds. Automakers have realized this too, and that's why even Bugatti, already known for setting speed records with its Veyron Super Sport and open-top Vitesse, has stated that it's no longer interested in setting top speed records - that is, of course, only after building a special Chiron that can surpass 300 mph. Here's one of those rare speed demons in all its glory, moving at a whopping average speed of probably around 3 mph. Whether you're stuck in L.A. freeway traffic or attending a car show with a gazillion spectators spilling out onto the streets, that's probably about as fast as you'd be able to go. And you can easily achieve those same speeds with a Prius. Or a bicycle. Or an elephant. So why would anyone spend millions on this Bugatti? Simply because they can. Most ordinary humans would probably consider it a waste of money. But for those who don't and can actually afford it, it's the ultimate expression of money-is-no-problem automotive engineering, balancing comfort and luxury with mind-blowing performance. It's nice to simply know you have the fastest car in the world, one theoretically capable of getting you from L.A. to Las Vegas in under an hour - Theoretically as in if there were no red lights, impeding traffic, unexpected road hazards, or law enforcement... in other words, a theory that will never have a chance to be proven. But it sure is fun to brag, right?
