Rare 1927 Hispano-Suiza H6C Sports Saloon by Gurney Nutting

A rare blue 1927 Hispano-Suiza H6C Gurney Nutting Sports Saloon with polished aluminum hood, one of around 2,350 H6s built between 1919 and 1933, arriving at Clearman's restaurants during the 2025 Holiday Motor Excursion presented by the Horseless Carriage Club (HCCA) of Southern California. The H6C, introduced in 1924, is powered by an 8.0-liter overhead-camshaft straight-six engine producing around 165-195 horsepower. This example, chassis no. 12039, was originally delivered in January 1928 fitted with roadster bodywork which was replaced by fabric Gurney Nutting Weymann Sportsman Saloon coachwork after it was involved in an accident in the mid-1930s. The car was featured in the 2007 British television movie “Ballet Shoes” and was recently displayed at the 2026 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, where it won Third in Class (Prewar Preservation).

I don't know if I'll ever have the luxury of attending the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in person, but I'm thankful to be able to watch the online livestream and recognize several cars that I'd previously crossed paths with. And I knew right away that the award-winning Hispano-Suiza was this very same car, because there simply can't be another example with the exact same gorgeous bodywork and exquisite interior. I was able to enjoy a great chat with its owner, although I had no idea then that the car was headed to Pebble. And even after having attended the Holiday Motor Excursion for several years and encountering all kinds if beautiful luxury classics including countless Rolls-Royces and Duesenbergs, this rare Hispano is a car I definitely won't forget.
