A very rare black 1952 Kurtis 500S with red interior driving in Beverly Hills after the 2018 Rodeo Drive Concours d'Elegance. This example was originally a race car powered by a Buick Nailhead V8 engine. It underwent a complete restoration by American Legends Hot Rods and Muscle Cars during which it received Halibrand pin-drive wheels and numerous street-oriented performance upgrades including a 400-horsepower small-block Chevrolet V8 and a Tremec five-speed transmission.

There's nothing like seeing an old race car on the road alongside everyday traffic, but this is exactly the kind of stuff that makes it worthwhile to stick around until the end of a major car show. After all, every one of the cars has to leave somehow, right? The Kurtis name was well-established in the racing world, but its contribution to roadgoing cars was rather limited. And that makes this car even more of a treat to see. It looks like a beefed-up Lotus 7 with a row of shiny teeth, and its light weight, muscular engine, and open-air configuration make it a blast to drive.

Would you drive this Kurtis 500S on the road alongside everyday traffic? Leave a comment on YouTube and let me know!
