Rare 1955 Porsche 356 Continental Coupe
A rare white 1955 Porsche 356 (Pre-A) Continental Coupe arriving at and leaving Cars and Coffee at Finish Line Auto Club. Continental-badged 356's were only sold for one year before being renamed "European" for 1956.
It can take entire books to explain how to properly identify every variant of the Porsche 356. As if it weren't confusing enough that the "A" cars were actually not the earliest series, there were numerous body styles, minor visual and mechanical updates, and changes in naming throughout the car's production cycle. Here's a special gem that many may not recognize without a closer look.
Yes, Lincoln also used the Continental name at the time. And yes, Porsche got sued for it, which is why the name was changed after only one year. That also explains why, even though I've seen dozens of 356's over the years, this was one of the only Continentals I've encountered. Or maybe I just haven't paid enough attention. These cars were among the last of the "Pre-A" 356's and are nearly identical to other Pre-A's aside from badging. This car's color certainly fits its pure and simple design, and its contrasting red interior is stunning. Factor in the Continental's rarity, and this car is sure to remain a highly desirable collector's item.
