A rare silver 1961 Lancia Appia GTE arriving at and leaving Cars and Coffee at Finish Line Auto Club. Introduced at the 1958 Turin Motor Show, the Appia GTE was the first car with Zagato bodywork officially sold by Lancia. This example is one of around 300 GTEs built between 1958 and 1962.

Lancia is a name that most Americans today are unfamiliar with, but it has produced numerous models over the decades that are highly desirable among enthusiasts thanks to its collaboration with some of the most prominent names in coachbuilding. The GTE is unusually low and sleek, especially for its time, and the long, swooping rear profile almost seems to imply that there should be a mid-mounted engine. Combine that with the curious-looking front end and you have a car that won't be mistaken for any other. This may not be the first car that comes to most people's minds when thinking of a '50s-'60s Italian coupe, but it's definitely a welcome surprise at any Cars and Coffee event!
