Rare 1974 Albany Model G Brass Era Tribute Car
A rare green 1974 Albany Model G arriving at and leaving 2025 Holiday Motor Excursion presented by the Horseless Carriage Club (HCCA) of Southern California. This car is one of 110 cars built by brothers Bryan and David Shepherd at the Albany Motor Carriage Co. in Christchurch, U.K., 12 of which were made for import to the U.S. Produced between 1971 and 1997, the Albany was inspired by horseless carriages and automobiles from the Veteran, Brass, and Edwardian eras and is powered by a 1.3-liter 4-cylinder Triumph Spitfire engine producing 75 horsepower.
No, the year in the title/description is not a typo. I always appreciate cars that are inspired by cars of past eras but don't try to be an exact replica of a particular make or model. I've seen this car several times at the annual Holiday Motor Excursion, and its lucky owner enjoys making people guess when the car was made (and seeing the surprised and confused looks on their faces when he reveals the answer). Undoubtedly an antique car enthusiast, he shows the car for what it is, doesn't pretend that it's an actual century-old horseless carriage, and always chooses to park farther down the lot to avoid the notion that he may be trying to deceive anyone. While it's still a very simple, bare-bones automobile like the ones that inspired it, being built in a much later period means it can be enjoyed without a lot of the mechanical challenges horseless carriage owners frequently have to deal with. Plus, just imagine the looks you'll get pulling into a Triumph gathering with a straight face knowing your car's powerplant fits right in!
Would you choose this rare Albany over an actual horseless carriage? Leave a comment on YouTube and let me know!
