A rare red 1987 Aston Martin Lagonda, one of 645 built, arriving at the 2022 San Marino Motor Classic at Lacy Park.

It's hard to believe this car was built by the same company that made James Bond's iconic DB5. It looked nothing like anything Aston Martin had made or would make. Edgy styling was a growing trend in the '70s, but while sharp over-the-top designs were more commonly associated with sports cars, Aston decided to introduce one of its boldest looks yet on a four-door sedan - a segment more often characterized by conservative styling. Given its high price and polarizing design, it's not particularly surprising that so few Lagondas were built and that the car had no successor until the DB9-based Rapide was launched almost 20 years later. I imagine that, as with the Rapide, interior space is heavily compromised by the sleek shape. And I imagine that, as with most British cars of this era, keeping the car in running condition can bite you pretty hard in the wallet. The Lagonda is certainly not for everyone, but it's undoubtedly cool and will stand out whether you park it next to other Aston Martins or next to other contemporary luxury sedans.
