Rare Gagliardi Vex (Rebodied Porsche 987 Boxster)

A rare white Gagliardi Vex leaving Winter Drive 2019, organized by Purist Group, at Industry Hills Expo Center. Designed and built by Southern California-based Gagliardi Design, the Vex was introduced in 2019 and is based on the first-generation (986) or second-generation (987) Porsche Boxster. The factory-built car features fiberglass bodywork with a removable top and takes around three to four months to complete with a price of $45,000-$50,000 (not including the donor car). This car, based on a 2006 Porsche (987) Boxster, was one of the earliest examples built.

This is a car that never ceases to attract curious onlookers trying to figure out what the heck it actually is. While it's not a kit car, its design may lead some to believe that it is. And that's not necessarily a bad thing; while it doesn't look like something that deserves a $200,000 price tag, it definitely looks quite cool. Sure, what looks like an exotic supercar boils down to "only" a Boxster or Cayman. But this car is all about being different, and while the Porsche 986/987 don't have particularly boastworthy performance numbers, they are undoubtedly potent performance cars from a company known for building performance cars. Of course, you can easily find a used C8 Corvette Stingray for around the same price as a Vex even given the 986/987's current market value, and it would have far better performance, far more power, and far more modern amenities. But C8s are so common now that many people pay no attention to them anymore. So if you'd rather spend your money on something that's guaranteed to turn heads and start conversations, I'm sure Gagliardi would love to build a car for you!

Would you spend $50,000 to convert your Porsche 986/987 to this Gagliardi Vex? Leave a comment on YouTube and let me know!
