A rare grey 2007 Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 722 Edition, one of 150 722 Edition coupes built, arriving at and leaving Cars and Coffee at Finish Line Auto Club. Introduced in 2006, the 722 Edition was named after the 300 SLR driven by Stirling Moss and his co-driver Denis Jenkinson, which won the 1955 Mille Miglia and had the starting number "722" (indicating a start time of 7:22 A.M.) It featured numerous upgrades to the SLR McLaren including a modified engine producing 641 horsepower, stiffer suspension, a carbon fiber front splitter, 19-inch light-alloy wheels, and carbon fiber interior trim.

When the SLR McLaren was introduced, its price of around $450,000 naturally prompted much comparison with Porsche's Carrera GT and Ferrari's Enzo, which led to the car often being overshadowed for being more of a tourer than a hardcore driver's car. The SLR is incredibly powerful, incredibly fast, and incredibly beautiful, and there's no denying it has aged extremely well. But for those who thought it deserved a little more oomph, Mercedes offered the 722 Edition, with reduced weight, improved aerodynamics, stiffer suspension, more power, and special badging just to make you feel a bit more extraordinary. Given the base car drew its inspiration from one of the most legendary Mercedes-Benz race cars, many enthusiasts believe the 722 Edition is how the the SLR McLaren always should have been.
