A white 2023 Bentley Bentayga EWB Azure First Edition leaving "Prebble", a Pre-Monterey (Pre-Pebble Beach) gathering at Oakley headquarters presented by Ancillary Studios in collaboration with HyperSociety. Introduced in May 2022, the Bentayga Extended Wheelbase (EWB) replaced the Mulsanne as Bentley's flagship model. Based on the standard (second-generation) Bentayga, it features a wheelbase extended by 180 mm for increased interior space. The Azure First Edition is powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine producing 542 horsepower and 568 lb-ft of torque.

Ever since luxury SUVs first took off back in the '90s, there was no doubt they would one day dominate the luxury segment. While utilizing the same footprint as luxury sedans, they offer better visibility thanks to increased height and more interior space for occupants to enjoy their luxurious amenities... What's not to love then? Well, they simply don't look as classy as big traditional sedans. But that clearly didn't stop buyers, and automakers responded accordingly. One of the biggest blows to the shrinking luxury sedan market came when Bentley decided it would replace its ultra-luxury Mulsanne with a stretched version of its popular Bentayga SUV with no plans for another flagship sedan. Is it more refined, more modern, and more luxurious than the Mulsanne? Yes. And for most who are lucky enough to be inside, that's probably all that matters. But at the end of the day, a stretched SUV based on a Volkswagen simply doesn't exude the same awe-inspiring aura of affluence as a proper old-fashioned sedan.

Do you think Bentley should have replaced the Mulsanne with another large sedan rather than a stretched SUV? Leave a comment on YouTube and let me know!
