1920 Rolls-Royce 40/50 hp Silver Ghost Hooper Tourer “Alpine Eagle”
A rare 1920 Rolls-Royce 40/50 hp Silver Ghost arriving at and leaving the 2025 Holiday Motor Excursion presented by the Horseless Carriage Club (HCCA) of Southern California. This car was ordered with the “Alpine Eagle” specification and features Open Touring bodywork by Hooper & Co.
I've seen numerous examples of Rolls-Royce's successful early model, and the biggest thing that stands out to me about this particular one is undoubtedly its wheels. I'm not sure if they were factory options or if they served any intentional purpose when it came to performance/aerodynamics, but the body-colored wheels definitely give the car an entirely different character compared to those with more common wire wheels. It trades the visual complexity of the wire wheels for smooth, round surfaces resulting in a more clean and elegant overall look, and the wheels even have pinstriping matching the car's bodywork. Here in Southern California where vintage Rolls-Royces aren't particularly rare, perhaps that's exactly what it takes to stand out from the crowd!
Would you equip your Silver Ghost with these body-colored wheels? Leave a comment on YouTube and let me know!
