Jay Leno's 1931 Duesenberg Model J LaGrande Coupe
Jay Leno arriving at and leaving the 2024 Holiday Motor Excursion presented by the Horseless Carriage Club (HCCA) of Southern California in his black 1931 Duesenberg Model J LaGrande Coupe. This car, chassis no. 2432, was one of two LaGrande Coupes originally built. Both original Gordon Buehrig-designed bodies were eventually destroyed, and Leno had the LaGrande Coupe body recreated by Duesenberg historian and restoration expert Randy Ema.
Those who have seen Jay Leno at car meets know that he usually prefers to arrive late (possibly to not attract too much attention). So even at events that he attends regularly, many fans don't know he's there until they randomly spot him walking in the crowd long after he has arrived. I got quite lucky this time; I happened to be looking down the street and saw his car in the distance. While there are usually several Duesenbergs in attendance at the annual Holiday Motor Excursion, this one was particularly easy to identify. First, it's the only one with this body style still in existence. And second, it's the same car he brought the previous year. I won't deny that's a bit of a disappointment given how many cars he has to choose from. But come on, can anyone really complain in the presence of such a gorgeous vehicle, not to mention one of the best-known automotive celebrities?
If you were Jay Leno, would you have brought this same car to the same event two years in a row? Leave a comment on YouTube and let me know!
