Liberty Walk Ferrari 308 w/ Honda K24 Engine Swap, HRE Wheels (SEMA Show Car)
A custom matte black Ferrari 308 GTB driving into a transporter after Winter Drive 2025, organized by Purist Group, at Industry Hills Expo Center. Built and owned by Mike Burroughs, founder of StanceWorks, it was based on a yellow 1981 308 GTBi and intended to compete in SCCA Global Time Attack events. The car features a Liberty Walk widebody kit and HRE wheels, and its original F106 V8 engine has been swapped out for a Honda K24 four-cylinder engine with a Garrett turbocharger.
I once chatted with the owner of a shop specializing in old Ferraris like the 308. "Do you know why there are so many Ferraris here?", he asked as I snapped pictures of the cars parked outside. "It's because they always break!" And he wasn't entirely joking. Like many who dreamed of owning a Ferrari, this car's owner understood that while cars like the 308 aren't particularly expensive to obtain, they'll end up spending far too much time in the shop and also costing far too much money to maintain. And that's probably part of the reason he took this unconventional and undoubtedly controversial approach. Technically it's still a Ferrari, albeit a rather common and inexpensive one. The engine swap may leave poor Enzo rolling in his grave, but it definitely benefits the car in terms of reliability. And since it's already too late to pacify the purists, why not top things off with some huge Liberty Walk fenders? I'd personally consider this car far more sacrilegious if it were based on a more rare or coveted model. And the Japanese body kit pairs quite well with its new powerplant. Whether you love it or hate it, it's certainly a custom build like no other!
