Rare 1962 Porsche 356 B T6 Karmann Notchback Coupe
A rare black 1962 Porsche 356 B (T6) Karmann Notchback Coupé with red interior arriving at and leaving the Winter Supercar Celebration hosted by Protective Film Solutions in partnership with XPEL. The “Notchback” was produced between 1961 and 1962 with coachwork by Karmann. 1961 cars, based on the T5 body style, were Cabriolets with steel tops welded in place while 1962 cars, based on the T6 body style, were produced as fixed-top models with a distinctive design. This example, which retains its original color and 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine producing 60 horsepower, is one of 699 T6 Karmann Notchbacks built.
In an event highlighted by numerous modern supercars and attended by dozens of social media users eager to catch the newest, loudest, and flashiest rides, this car was a huge surprise - one that, sadly, went largely unnoticed. The fact is it's actually more rare than a 918 Spyder, a 911 S/T, and most of Porsche's other factory special edition models. I've only seen one Notchback before, and it was owned by a well-known classic Porsche enthusiast who decided to sell it several years ago. Since then, I'd been itching to catch another example of this elusive and somewhat quirky 356 variant. And having failed to do so after attending numerous events catered to rare classic cars, I was certainly not expecting my luck to change - especially not here. So yes, I was the one crazy guy at the entire event chasing after what most people probably assumed was just another 356. Compared to all the other cars, it's slow, quiet, old, and not particularly attention-grabbing. But it sure got my attention, and it definitely made my day. Special thanks to its owner for helping me check another car off my bucket list.
