A very rare 1967 Ferrari 330 GTC Speciale, one of four 330 GTC Speciales built, leaving the 2026 Concorso Ferrari, organized by the Southwest Region of the Ferrari Club of America (FCA), where it won Best in Show. The first 330 GTC Speciale, chassis no. 9439, was commissioned by Princess Lilian de Réthy, wife of King Leopold III of Belgium, and featured bespoke Pininfarina coachwork finished in Azzurro Aurora (Aurora Blue) with pop-up fog lamps and a wraparound rear glass inspired by earlier Ferrari models including the 365 California and the 1966 Dino prototype. This example, chassis no. 9653, was originally owned by renowned American heart surgeon Dr. Michael DeBakey, a friend of Princess Lilian, who saw her car during a factory visit and decided to order an identical car. It was displayed on the Pininfarina stand at the 37th Geneva Motor Show in 1967. This car underwent a professional restoration in the 1990s and has received several notable awards including Best of Show at the Concours Italiano at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering and the Chairman’s Trophy at the 2024 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

It's hard to stand out in a crowd of around a hundred Ferraris. But that's exactly what this car did. I admit from a distance I thought it was a 365. But the pair of circular pop-up lights and unique rear glass told me I may be wrong. And boy am I glad to be wrong. This car is not only incredibly rare, but also uniquely inspired by a royalty-owned example. With so few of them in existence, I guess I shouldn't be too hard on myself for not having heard of the model before. But it's always great to see and learn something new. There were several other highly noteworthy classic Ferraris on display just a few feet away, including a rare 275 GTB Competizione, a 250 SWB California, and a 410 Superamerica originally owned by the last emperor of Vietnam, and all those cars seemed to receive more attention, probably due to their proximity to the main stage and their more eye-catching colors. But FCA's judges don't see things the same way we average spectators do, and it was this very special 330 that ended up taking home the Best in Show trophy.
