Rare 1987 DeTomaso Pantera GT5-S
A rare red 1987 DeTomaso Pantera GT5-S arriving at and leaving the 2024 San Marino Motor Classic at Lacy Park, where it won First in Class (Italian Sports Cars - DeTomaso). Introduced for 1985, the GT5-S features steel bodywork with single-piece flared fenders and is powered by a 351-CI V8 engine mated to a ZF 5-speed manual transmission. This example, a European-spec car imported from Sweden, is one of 187 GT5-S Panteras built.
Like the Lamborghini Countach, the DeTomaso Pantera began life with a simple wedge-shaped design that evolved over time with the addition of more vents, massive flared fenders, and a huge wing. But unlike the iconic Lambo, the Pantera is most commonly seen wearing earlier styling. It's not a particularly rare sight at car events, and it's attainable enough that a large number of examples are heavily modified. But chances are those examples don't wear GT5-S badging. Even from far away, this car's flared fenders and Countach-esque wing told me it was no ordinary Pantera. It's certainly a treat to see, and it's certainly a car worthy of taking home First in Class.
Do you prefer the flared and winged look of this Pantera GT5-S or the simpler design of earlier Panteras? Leave a comment on YouTube and let me know!
