Rare Lamborghini Murcielago 40th Anniversary

A very rare 2003 Lamborghini Murcielago 40th Anniversary arriving at and leaving the 2023 San Marino Motor Classic at Lacy Park. Built to celebrate the anniversary of Automobili Lamborghini, the Murcielago 40th Anniversary features exclusive Verde Artemis paint, carbon fiber exterior trim, grey anthracite wheels, and unique leather interior trim. This example is no. 16 of 50 Anniversary edition Murcielagos built.

This car takes me back to a time when smartphones and social media had not yet taken over humanity and the new Muricelago had just revolutionized the supercar world. I remember standing in line to order an In-N-Out burger back in 2006 when a Murcielago in a unique blue-green hue appeared at the gas station across the street. I gladly surrendered my spot in the notoriously long line and ran across the street for a closer look, and only later did I realize it was much more than just an ordinary Lambo with a fancy paint job. I've consumed countless burgers since then, but that was the first - and last - time I ever caught a glimpse of a 40th Anniversary Murcielago... until this one showed up.

The Murcielago 40th Anniversary was the first new variant of Lamborghini's flagship model that would live to see nearly a decade of evolution and improvement, preceding even the original Murcielago Roadster which hit the market about a year later. In a sense, this special edition was a little disappointing, since Lamborghini's previous anniversary cars, the Countach 25th Anniversary and the Diablo SE30, featured extensive updates while this one was essentially just a color and trim package. And while the turquoise shade is certainly unique, I wouldn't say it looks better on the car than some standard color offerings. But it's certainly recognizable even from a distance, and with only 50 units built, it sure as heck is rare. As the original Murcielago's pure design and raw V12 sound continue to grow in appeal in contrast to today's flashier and more advanced models, this car will surely continue to increase in desirability and value.
